Update, update, update!

Always make sure that Windows is up-to-date and install updates regularly. That’s the most important thing you can do to keep your computer safe. Be very careful about “taking a website’s word for it.” An easy way to get a virus is to click on something that appears to be an update, like Adobe Flash. To be sure, go directly to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest version.

Use a Router

What if I have only 1 device? Do I still need a router? Yes, it’s the quickest and easiest way to run a simple firewall at home and keep more bad guys out.

Email

Make sure that the only time you open an e-mail attachment it’s from someone you know AND it’s a file that you were expecting from them. Even if it appears to be from someone you know, that doesn’t necessarily mean they intended to send it to you and it may not be safe.

Don't Just Install Anything

Only download programs from trustworthy sources. You can trust the links page on our website. Have a suggestion of something to add? Let us know and we’ll take a look at it.
